ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - The western Istrian tourist resort of Porec
was voted the Champion of Tourism of 1996 and won the Big Golden
Sun Award as part of the traditional Tourist Patrol Action started
by the Zagreb daily "Vecernji List", under the auspices of Croatian
Tourism Minister.
The White Sail Award went to Marina Punat on the Adriatic
island of Krk.
Soline from Brela and Mozart from Opatija were voted best
hotels and will receive the Vecernji List Plaque.
Porec was voted Champion of Tourism way back in 1981 and 1986.
This year's victory was prompted by the town's well cared-for
public spaces, exceptional tidiness, enriched hotel facilities and
high-quality catering.
Categories inspected this year for the champion resort
included thorough analyses of the quality of accommodation,
cleanliness and environment protection, catering, supplies, the
arrangement of beaches, and cultural, entertainment and sports
facilities.
