KORNBLUM DEMANDS KARADZIC'S COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL

Autor:
BELGRADE, 9 August (Hina) - Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic talked today with the US Deputy State Secretary John Kornblum and NATO Commander for Europe George Joulwan. The meeting, which started at 1100 hrs and ended slightly before 1700 hrs was also attended by Biljana Plavšić and Momčilo Krajišnik, leaders of "Republika srpska", as well as by FRY Foreign Minister Milan Milutinović and the US embassy charge de affairs Richard Miles. Kornblum asked, inter alia, for a complete withdrawal of Radovan Karadžić from the political scene. Speaking to the press, he said that frequent appearance of Karadžić in the media of "Republika srpska" and his photographs on election posters constitute violation of the peace agreement. Kornblum stressed the US expected Karadžić's complete withdrawal from public life. Referring to a statement by George Joulwan, who left the meeting earlier, Kornblum warned that the Serb forces were more and more frequently violating military provisions of the Dayton accords. He added that IFOR would respond to such incidents. Kornblum described the talks with Milošević as "detailed," adding he told the Serbian president he expected from FRY more cooperation at all levels, especially in the implementation of the Dayton accords provisions concerning organization and carrying out of the elections in BH. Kornblum also spent sometime talking privately with Biljana Plavšić and Momčilo Krajišnik. President Milošević's office issued a statement saying that the talks evolved around "implementation of the peace agreement in BH." "We have stressed the importance of intensive and coordinated efforts on a consistent and comprehensive implementation of the Dayton accords. Both parties expressed their hopes that elections for local authorities will contribute to an overall normalization of the situation and thus make possible repatriation of refugees and facilitate restoration of confidence between the citizens," says the statement, inter alia. mr (Hina) 092045 MET aug 96
