ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - Croatian peasants expressed
dissatisfaction with the protective price of wheat of 90 lipa (26
German pfenings) per kilo which the government offered them and are
asking for 1,30 kunas (37 pfenings) per kilo.
Head of the Croatian Peasants' Centre (an association within
the Croatian Peasants' Party , HSS), Petar Jurisic, said that their
protest to the Croatian Agriculture Minister Matej Jankovic because
of the low protective price had ended with no results.
The Centre would suggest to the producers to store as much
wheat as possible and wait for a change in the price, Jurisic said.
"As wheat by the price of 90 lipa per kilo is the cheapest
fodder for the Croatian peasant, he will feed his cattle with it
rather than market it (export is forbidden), so because of the lack
of wheat on the market, we will be forced to import wheat at a high
price of 1,5 kunas," HSS representative in the Croatian Parliament,
Josip Pankretic, said.
"Such politics cripple the consumers and producers," Pankretic
said.
