12TH WORLD FESTIVAL OF ANIMATED CARTOONS ENDS

ZAGREB, 15 (Hina) - The 12th World Festival of Animated Cartoon ended last night with the presentation of awards. The best film, which won the Grand Prix, is '1895-Priita Parne', by a director from Estonia. That film was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of motion pictures, which was celebrated last year throughout the world. The award of the Association of Croatian Film Critics went to the same film. The film 'Quest' by Tyron Montgomery (Germany), was awarded with 'Zlatko Grgic' award as the best debutante film. Two other equally-rated awards for debutante film went to the film 'Pariah - The Red Man' by Kevin Richard from Great Britain and the film 'Dada' by Diet Kroon from the Netherlands. The best film in the 'A' category with the duration between 30 seconds and 5 minutes is the film entitled 'The Year of Deer', by Georges Schwitzgebel from Switzerland. Two equal awards in the 'A' category went to the film 'Greeted' by Jonas Raeber from Switzerland and the film 'Watching TV' by Christopher Hinton from Canada. The best film in the 'B' category with duration between 5 and 30 min is 'Njurka's Bath', by Oksana Tcherkassova from Russia. Two equally-rated awards in the same category went to 'Under Stress' by Karen Kely from Great Britain and 'A Wooden Leg' by Daren Dohertie and Nick Smith from Great Britain. The best film in the 'C' category is 'Processor' by the Norwegian director Jan Otto Otaertesvag. Chris Landreth from Canada was elected the best producer in the film 'End'. The award for the best abstract cartoon went to 'Roots' by Barbel Neubauer from Germany. The 'Vecernji List' award of the public went to the film 'Mocking Bird', by John R. Dilworth from The United States. The organizer of the festival was the Concert Board Zagreb, which was assisted by the British Council for cultural relations in Zagreb, Zagreb Film, the Zagreb Jewish Community and 'Karnet', the Croatian academic research net. The novelty at the festival was that it could be followed via Internet. The festival included 74 films from 34 countries.
