ARMS CONTROL AGREEMENT REACHED IN FLORENCE

FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - A sub-regional arms control pact which should have been signed in Oslo on June 11, was reached in Florence on Friday, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic told reporters. "The pact is to be signed in the form agreed on in Oslo and Vienna," Granic said. Granic headed the Croatian delegation at a two-day ministerial conference on the implementation of the Dayton peace accords in Florence. The talks had lasted all night and participating had been the Contact Group headed by the U.S., the Bosniac side, Bosnian Serbs and the Croatian delegation, Granic said. "This agreement is very satisfactory for Croatia, more than the Dayton Agreement," Granic said, adding that the agreement enabled Croatia not to disarm, but to update its arms to certain limits which had been agreed on and which were a part of the European pact on stability and security in Europe. The arms control pact was to be signed in Oslo, but it was prevented by a disagreement between Moslems and Bosnian Serbs about the preamble of the pact, that is, about the status of the Serb entity as a signatory.
