ZAGREB, May 29 (Hina) - Transitional Administrator for eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem Jacques Klein expressed
satisfaction with the recent speech made by the Croatian President
Franjo Tudjman at a session of the Presidential Council, in which
he guaranteed to Serbs civil and ethnic rights, as well as full
integration into the Croatian society. #L#
"I was very pleased to read your speech to the Presidential
Council on Sunday. Your pledge to personally lead a policy under
which 'Serbs should be granted civil rights, the rights of an
ethnic community, and that they should be fully integrated into
Croatian society' is an important message of hope to the Serb
population," the letter forwarded to Tudjman said.
The letter said that Tudjman's speech "will be welcomed by the
local populace and will make it easier for me to move forward with
my mandate".
"Your speech was a courageous step forward. It demonstrated to
me and, I believe, to members of the international community your
intent to move forward with the healing and reconciliation process
that is so badly needed in eastern Slavonia. You are to be
congratulated," the letter said.
