SPLIT, May 24 (Hina) - A flight control tower at Split airport,
which had been heavily damaged in an attack by Yugoslav Air Force
jets in September 1991, was formally opened at Split airport on
Friday.
"The tower has been repaired and provided with modern
equipment, and along with a new radar on Mount Kozjak, it will
ensure control of air space from Zadar to the southernmost
peninsula of Prevlaka," Tranport and Communications Minister Zeljko
Luzavec said at the opening ceremony.
Luzavec said that now that the first phase of medernizing the
flight control system had finished, Split airport became one of the
best equipped airports in Europe.
Similar measures would be taken over the summer to ensure that
flight control systems at airports in Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Pula, and
later in Zadar and on Adriatic islands, meet international
standards, the minister announced.
