USKOPLJE, May 20 (Hina) - The Bosniac police on Sunday prevented a
Mass to be celebrated at the Bistrica cemetery, near Uskoplje,
central Bosnia.
Central Bosnian Prefect Ivan Saric on Monday sent a letter to
International Peace Coordinator Carl Bildt informing him of the
incident. He demanded of Bildt the implementation of the
Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the
support for the establishment of authorities in the central Bosnia
county where Croats and Moslems live in equal number.
Saric, a displaced person from Bistrica who was present when
the incident took place yesterday, in his letter informed Bildt of
the particulars. The Mass was to be celebrated at 11 am, but the
Bosniac police blocked all access both to Bistrica and the
cemetery. A priest from Uskoplje, Zuparic, managed to get to the
cemetery with a small group of people, and he began with a Mass for
the spring blessing of the fields. However, the Bosniac police
arrived at the cemetery and stopped the service.
The headquarters of the International Police was also informed
of the incident and officers arrived on the scene immediately.
