ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Constitutional Court on
Friday overruled the Government decision of April 30 to dissolve
the Zagreb City Council and appoint a commissioner for the city.
The ruling was passed after the Court considered a
constitutional action against the Government decision instituted
by the president of the dissolved City Council, Zdravko Tomac of
the opposition Social Democratic Party.
In a detailed explanation of its ruling, the Court said that
the Government's decision did not have foundation in legislation
and that the Government acted outside the jurisdiction given to
it by a special law.
The Constitutional Court session involved ten judges of whom
only one, Milan Vukovic, voted against the upholding of the
constitutional action.
