ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK reports that the mortal
remains of pre-World War II Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader
Vladko Macek were transferred to Croatia yesterday, to be inhumed
at Zagreb's main cemetery Mirogoj among Croatia's greatest men,
next to the founder and first president of HSS, Stjepan Radic.
VJESNIK carries a statement by Croatian Helsinki Committee
(HSS) president Ivan Z. Cicak refuting an article published by
VJESNIK on Tuesday, which said that Cicak had worked for the
Yugoslav secret police UDBA since 1996.
"The allegation about my collaboration with the UDBA is false
and untrue. I call upon the Croatian Parliament to appoint a
commission to investigate my file," Cicak said, adding that the
publishing of such allegations was yet another attempt to instill
fear in Croatia.
Next to Cicak's denial, the paper publishes a commentary by
Zivko Kustic, the editor-in-chief of the Croatian Catholic Agency
IKA.
"VJESNIK's article on Ivan Z. Cicak did not produce any
serious or credible evidence. I consider such an act as lawless,"
Kustic said.
The paper runs a comment piece by Milan Jajcinovic, headlined
"Bosnian Army 5th Corps 'Liberates' Croatia."
VJESNIK's business analyst Ivo Jakovljevic expresses concern
over a recent drop in exports, employment and industrial output, in
a comment piece headalined "It's Improtant to Survive the Next Two
Months."
VECERNJI LIST carries an interview with newly-appointed
Croatian Governmetn Commissioner for Zagreb, Stjepan Brolich. The
interview is headlined "No Elections Before Autumn."
Mirko Galic criticises the "thoughtless" lifting of the Serbia
sanctions whereby Serbia was in fact rewarded by the world powers.
