THE HAGUE, April 25 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal
for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Thursday rejected a request by
counsel for General Tihomir Blaskic for his provisional release,
the tribunal said in a statement.
President Judge Claude Jorda said that there were no
"exceptional circumstances" in the Blaskic case that would justify
provisional release under Rule 65 of the tribunal.
Provisional release can only be ordered in rare cases, for
instance if the health of the accused has deteriorated.
"Guarantees given by General Blaskic that he would appear when
summoned before the Tribunal and his willingness to lodge a bail
bond are not sufficient," the statement said.
