ZAGREB, Apr 24 (Hina) - Directors of state archives of four
countries successors to former Yugoslavia agreed today to initiate
talks on the division of archive materials.
Today's meeting, organised by the Croatian State Archives,
involved directors of Bosnian, Macedonian and Slovene state
archives.
Under the former Federation's centralistic laws, not only the
federal archives but also the archives of republics were kept in
Belgrade. The four successors were therefore interested in
recovering material which would not only protect their historical
heritage but also help ensure the efficient functioning of the
administration.
The successors would particularly insist on the return of film
archives.
The meeting supported an initiative of the International
Council on Archives to organise talks between the representatives
of all post-Yugoslavia states. They stressed, however, that there
was no need for European mediation at such a meeting.
