JASENOVAC, April 21 (Hina) - Representatives of the antifascist
war veterans' federations of Croatia and Slovenia, Jasenovac camp
survivors, the Jewish community of Zagreb, the Croatian-Israeli
Jewish Society and the Association of Romanies of Croatia met in
Jasenovac, about 120 km southeast of Zagreb, on Sunday to
commemorate the 51st anniversary of an uprising in the former
World War Two concentration camp.
After a wreath-laying ceremony, which also involved
representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the
Action of Croatian Socialists (ASH), participants observed a
minute of silence in honour of the people who had been executed
in the camp.
"The evil must never be forgotten or forgiven nor it can
be allowed to return. Therefore we demand that all criminals be
brought before the international tribunal in The Hague and that
the promotion of fascism and nazism be banned by law," said the
president of the Antifascist War Veterans' Federation of Croatia,
Ivan Fumic.
An interconfessional service in memory of the victims of
the Jasenovac camp involved the head of the Hebrew Language
Department of Zagreb, Moshe Meshulam, retired Serb Orthodox
parish priest Jovan Nikolic, Roman Catholic parish priest of
Trnava Luka Vincetic and Branko Lovrec, president of the
Federation of Baptist churches in Croatia.
