BOSNIAN SERB ARMY COL. KRSMANOVIC TO BE TRIED IN SARAJEVO

SARAJEVO, Apr 5 (Hina) - Members of the internatinal police task force Thursday visited Bosnian Serb army Col. Aleksa Krsmanovic in a Sarajevo prison, UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said Friday. International police reported that Krsmanovic was in a good shape and had not complained against treatment in prison, Ivanko said. After a brief stint in the Hague, Krsmanovic was returned to Sarajevo on Wednesday due to lack of evidence. According to official Tribunal sources, Krsmanovic had refused to cooperate with the investigation or to appear as a witness. The Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje quoted chief prosecutor Richard Goldstone as saying that "Krsmanovic had to be returned to Sarajevo because his role was that of a witness." According to Oslobodjenje, Goldstone expressed full confidence in the Bosnian court system's ability to tackle Krsmanovic's trial. At the time of arrest, Krsmanovic held the post of deputy commander of the Bosnian army Sarajevo corps, which had besieged Sarajevo for four years. According to Vasvija Vidovic who is representing Bosnia- Herzegovina in the Hague, "Krsmanovic is facing charges of conscious and organised planning of artillery and other attacks on civilian targets in the capital and other areas which were not under Serb control."
