SARAJEVO, March 26 (Hina) - Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic on
Tuesday sent a letter to United States senators Bob Dole and Joseph
Lieberman in reply to their letter on the presence of Islamic
volunteer fighters in Bosnia-Herzegovina and its military relations
with Iran.
"It is true that at two locations there are 50 to 60 members
of the 'El Mujahid' unit who are now civilians because their unit
was disbanded in early January. It would be against the morality of
our people to expel the people who have fought on our side and have
nowhere to go because they cannot return to their countries,"
Izetbegovic wrote.
Dole and Lieberman had demanded in their letter that Bosnia-
Herzegovina discontinue military cooperation with Iran.
Izetbegovic called on the two senators and a Republican Party
delegation to visit Sarajevo to see for themselves that the Bosnian
authorities remained committed to universal values.
Izetbegovic's letter was published on the front page of the
Sarajevo-based daily "Oslobodjenje".
