U.N. DEPLOYS ONLY HALF OF CIVILIAN POLICE FORCE TO BOSNIA

WASHINGTON, March 26 (Hina) - The United Nations has deployed only half of the 1,721-strong civilian police force to Bosnia- Herzegovina, UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali said on Monday. Only 650 officers of the International Police Task Force have so far been deployed in Bosnia-Herzegovina. A further 542 officers are to be deployed by April 10 while the remaining 529 are to arrive by the end of April, Ghali said in a report to the Security Council. The report said that the deployment of police officers was delayed because contributing countries had failed to provide sufficiently qualified and skilled personnel. Speaking of the transfer of authority in Sarajevo, Ghali said that there were strong indications that the Bosnian Serb leadership at Pale had decided that Serbs should not be allowed to remain Sarajevo suburbs due to revert to Federation control.
