another official, Salvatore Lato, a statement from the Office for Refugees and Displaced Persons said.

for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Pavo Handabaka, on Thursday
received the head of the humanitarean branch of the Euroean Union
Monitoring Mission, Hans Ewe, and another official, Salvatore Lato,
a statement from the Office for Refugees and Displaced Persons

"The delegation was interested in the way the Office intends
to implement the return of refugees and the intensiveness of the
process, the situation of the Croatian citizens who had fled the
country during military and police operations, but now want to
return. The delegation was also interested in old persons who had
been left to fend for themselves, as well in as issues concerning
the peaceful reintegration of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western
Srijem," Handabaka said.
Handabaka informed Ewe that the return of refugees is in the
process of being carried out on an individual basis and would be
intensified in spring in line with the reconstruczion of the area.
It is estimated that in the first faze, around 47,000 refugees
might return to their homes.
Handabaka stressed that the help of the EU and non-government
humanitarean organizations should be refered towards the return,
that is, toward the place of return, where help would be needed to
renew agriculture, livestock breeding and other activities, the
statement said.
