Development Minister Ian Pronk, on Monday arrived in Tuzla for a
one-day working visit to the Tuzla Canton. #L#
The purpose of their visit is to visit locations where
refugees from Srebrenica are accommodated and to reach agreement
with Tuzla Canton officials on cooperation and care for refugees.
Tuzla Canton Prefect Izet Hadzic informed his guests about
the investment of most of 3 million dollars received from the
Dutch Government into the reconstruction of war-damaged houses
where refugees were temporarily accommodated. Pronk expressed his
satisfaction with the implementation of the Dutch programme aimed
at helping refugees and promised another $2 mil. of help.
"I expect that the Programme will be implemented as speedily
as it has been implemented so far. There is possibility that the
Tuzla Canton could receive additional help from the Dutch
Government for the same purpose, because our Government cares
very much that the problem of refugees be solved as effectively
as possible," Pronk said.
Hadzic called on Pronk to influence the UNHCR so that the
help for refugees could be retained at the present level. Hadzic
said that the UNHCR had announced to reduce considerably its help
for refugees. That would make the situation even more difficult
for more than 250,000 refugees and displaced persons accommodated
in the Tuzla Canton, Hadzic added.
