$ ROATIA, HSLS SAYS
ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - The last weekend's session of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) Central Committee had shown all
elements of mass democracy unique to one-party systems, the
Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) said in a statement on
Monday.
"The session of the HDZ Central Committee irresistibly
reminded of the Communist Central Committee plenary sessions, and
this could be seen in one of the central ideas of the session
according to which the opposition to one party means the
opposition to the whole state," the head of the HSLS, Vlado
Gotovac said at Monday's press conference which was called in
order to introduce the new party leadership.
Describing the HDZ session as "an announcement of further
reduction of freedoms in Croatia," Gotovac said the HSLS would be
forced to undertake new tactics.
Commenting on the Zagreb crisis concerning the election of
the city Mayor, the HSLS vice president and one of the
unconfirmed Zagreb Mayors, Jozo Rados, said that "the situation
in the coalition of Opposition parties is good, strong and
harmonious".
As the possibility of reaching any political compromise was
definitely lost, "the coalition will not allow to the post of
Zagreb Mayor anyone who does not belong to one of the Opposition
parties," Rados said.
