ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - The strike has met a great response, said
officials with the Croatian Post and Telecommunications (HPT) Union
Tuesday, referring to the strike staged by the HPT workers against
low basic wages which had been suggested by the Government as part
of a collective agreement.
Between 80 and 90 percent of HPT workers were protesting in
Zagreb and other areas, exept for Osijek, Split and Bjelovar, where
the response was not as great, said a Union representative, Josip
Pupic.
HPT management had assigned compulsory work orders to the
workers, thus breaking the law, another Union activist, Jadranko
Vehar added.
At several HPT local branches up to 30 percent of workers had
been assigned work orders, Vehar said, adding that some leaders of
working groups had been given blank forms with work orders to fill
as they wished. According to the Act on HPT, resolutions on work
tasks is to be given individually to people by the Croatian
Transport and Communications Ministry, Venar said.
