The talks focused on the reintegration of the occupied
Croatian areas.
The Belgian Government last week took over the command of
the UNTAES military section.
Vrkic informed Hintjens that certain contacts had been
established with the Serbs living in the occupied areas. However,
they were being established slowly, Vrkic said.
According to Hintjens, the beginning of the peaceful
reintegration did not depend on the deployment of international
forces, but on "the change of attitudes of the local Serbs".
Hintjens also met with Osijek Mayor Zlatko Kramaric, and
visited the Regional Office for Refugees and Displaced Persons.
Hintjens would also meet with the head of the Osijek branch
of the Serb National Party (SNS) Branislav Vorkapic in the
afternoon.
