ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - The mayor of western part of Mostar, Mijo
Brajkovic spoke to the Croatian News Broadcast this evening and
described the situation in that southern Bosnian-Herzegovinian city
as rather good at the moment. In respect of further developments
Brajkovic said he expected that the EU Administrator of Mostar Hans
Koschnick would change his decision on the set-up of the city. #L#
He explained that people (Mostar Croats) had been upset and
vexed, which might have been expected, as Bosnian Croat authorities
had very long cautioned about possible response of citizens.
However, he added, the situation was under control at the moment.
"We have imposed a curfew this evening in order to ban rallies
after 10 o'clock. In general, all is quiet," Brajkovic told the
Croatian television.
He said that some 15 days before a meeting had been held in
Mostar, similar to yesterday's session when Bosnian Croats had
agreed on maps and a proposal suggested by EU, which the Croat side
had de facto adopted. But Mr. Haris Silajdzic had been at that
meeting, although Brajkovic could not know in which capacity
Silajdzic could attend it, since he had earlier resigned. Brajkovic
added that Silajdzic had asked Koschnik to resign, in front of 30
people, and added that this was an example of pressure on Koschnik.
The mayor of western part of Mostar said he expected that a
decision on the set-up of Mostar could be unfavourable to Croats
due to pressures on Koschnik.
"Now, we expect that Koschnik change his decision, because we
will not accept this thing," the Bosnian Croat representative said.
"The municipal council under my chairmanship has severed
negotiations with Koschnik as long as he does not change the
decision," Brajkovic told the television.
Brajkovic said Koschnick had breached three documents,
previously adopted on this issue, and added that Croats would
complain to the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina about this matter, and they would see which decision
the Court would made.
