ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - The Croatian Workers' Unions' Bloc today
sent a letter to Premier Zlatko Matesa, proposing changes to the
Income Tax Act.
Quoting the Constitution as saying that "everyone shall
participate in the defrayment of public expenses, in accordance
with their economic possibilities", the Croatian Workers' Unions'
Bloc (consisting of five Croatian trade union federations and other
trade unions) proposed that a greater number of tax categories be
introduced.
At least five to seven tax categories with progressive tax
rates ranging from 15% to 45%, instead of the current 25% and 35%
tax rates, should be introduced.
Such taxation system would be 'more just and balanced as
regards the protection of citizens who have lower and medium
salaries, which in fact is the intention of every taxation system',
the Bloc said.
