A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON THURSDAY

Autor:
ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK devotes the front page to Serb sniper attacks on IFOR in Ilidza. The article is accompanied by a photo showing Serb troops removing their heavy weaponry under the supervision of French soldiers. The paper extensively covers the Parliament session. VJESNIK also runs an interview with Deputy Speaker Zarko Domljan, by Gordana Juresko. Domljan, who doubles as the head of the Croatian parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe, has recently returned from a Parliamentary Assembly session in Brussels. The middle-page 'Topical Issue' column is devoted to Serb camps and war-crimes in Bosnia-Herzegovina. VECERNJI LIST analyses the Pension Fund's recent liquidity troubles in the light of the new Labour Law, which took effect on January 1. A comment piece by Mate Piskor, headlined "Against Abuse" discusses the recent public confrontations of certain high HDZ officials, which "indicate that the HDZ is becoming more articulate as a party and resolving the disputes between fractions, which will eventually lead to a party catharsis." A comment piece by Mirko Galic discusses the reasons for the admittance of Russia and the non-admittance of Croatia to the Council of Europe. The article is headlined "Sacrificing Quality." The situation in Mostar, where both communities are waiting for Koschnik's pronouncement, is the subject of a commentary by Jozo Pavkovic. "The decree is bound to contain compromises which will be painful to both sides," Pavkovic muses. (hina) jn as 011212 MET feb 96
