SARAJEVO, Jan 28 (Hina) - International Red Cross officials in
Sarajevo said all remaining prisoners of war were expected to be
released on Sunday or Monday at the latest.
Bosnian Serbs were still holding 140 prisoners while the
Moslem-led Bosnian army was holding 75 people in Dolac prison
near Travnik, a spokesman for the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC), Pierre Gothier, told a news conference Sunday.
Gothier said that the Bosnian Croats had fulfilled their
commitments from the peace agreement after releasing 127 POWs
from Rodoc prison on Saturday.
However, the Croat Defence Council (HVO) detained 50
persons on suspicion of criminal activities, to which it was
entitled under the Dayton peace accord, he said.
The ICRC expected the Serbs to release 80 POWs from
prisons in Visegrad, Foca and Rogatica on Sunday.
A total of 378 prisoners were set free in different parts
of Bosnia on Saturday, only ten by Bosnian Serbs. Ten HVO members
held by Serbs were released near Bocac, the ICRC said.
Gothier said that an exchange of civilians had taken
place in northwestern Bosnia without the knowledge of the ICRC.
He added that 250 Serbs had left Bihac anc crossed into the Serb
entity while 100 Moslems arrived from Banja Luka.
Prisoner releases were stepped up after representatives
of the international community had increased political contacts
with the Bosnian parties in recent days, he said.
Gothier said that ICRC officials would continue to visit
prisons even after the release of registered prisoners and would
check information on the existence of other prisons or
unregistered detainees.
