$ IA AGREEMENT, GELBARD SAYS
ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - The United States wanted to secure the

Zagreb on Monday after his meeting with Croatian Vice Premier Ivica
Kostovic. #L#
Gelbard expressed optimism as regards the implementation of
the agreement.
The two officials discussed the whole process aimed at
reintegrating the Croatian Danubian area into Croatia. They laid
special stress on the establishment of transitional police forces
in the area.
Vice Premier Kostovic expressed satisfaction with the fact
that the United States had sent such an expert delegation which
'guaranteed that it would give full support for the U.N. mission in
the Croatian Danubian area'.
Currently, this meant that the agreement on the establishment
of transitional police forces would be implemented very quickly,
Kostovic said.
The police force in the Croatian Danubian area should include
Croats, Serb, Hungarians and members of some other minorities.
Their number would be determined by the 1991 Census. The police
force in the Croatian Danubian area would also include U.N. civil
police and it would be headed by the transitional administrator.
Kostovic stressed that the disarmament of Serb paramilitary
forces as well as the return of Croats to the Croatian Danubian
area would be a serious test of efficacy for the Croatian
government.
In the next few days, Robert Gelbard will be visiting the
occupied Croatian territory and talking with local Serb
representatives in order to see what could be done to speed up the
process of reintegration.
Gelbard will then visit Belgrade and discuss the issue with
Serbian authorities.
