PARIS, Jan 11 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Thursday evening returned from Paris where he attended a requiem
mass for former French President Francois Mitterand who died of
cancer on Monday at the age of 79.
The service was held in the Notre Dame Cathedral and was led
by the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger.
More than 1,300 French and foreign dignitaries, including
about 60 heads of state and governments, attended the mass.
Mitterand was buried in his home town of Jarnac, about 450
km southwest of Paris, in a close circle of family and friends.
President Tudjman was invited to a lunch at the Elysee
Palace given by French President Jacques Chirac in honour of
foreign statesmen.
Earlier on, Tudjman and his chief adviser Hrvoje Sarinic,
had visted the Croatian Embassy.
