KOSCHNICK SAYS MIGHT INTRODUCE RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT IN MOSTAR

MOSTAR, Jan 6 (Hina) - European Union administrator in Mostar, Hans Koschnick, said he mulled to introduce restrictions of movement in the city to protect its citizens from the armed incidents which had spiraled in the city over past few days. Triggered by the latest incidents, as Bosnian Croat policeman Zeljko Ljubic was shot and later died on Saturday, Koschnick forwarded a letter, later in the day, to Mijo Brajkovic and Safet Orucevic, the Croat and Moslem mayors in the city's two sectors. Describing the his cause as "the horrible event which had taken place at the Bulevar street," Koschnick urged the two mayors to "convince their men in the necessity to stay calm." "Using weapons in this way, must not go on. "If the situation does not improve drastically and immediately, I will have no option but to consider introducing temporary restrictions of movement in Mostar to protect its citizens from such danger. "It is our joint responsibility to see the Dayton peace accords implemented in the best possible terms and I therefore demand your support," the letter said, concluding with the expression of gratitude to western city's police force for cooperation over Saturday's incident.
