VUKOVAR, Dec 23 (Hina) - "Good morning, this is Croatian Radio
Vukovar, and we are greeting you from Vukovar", the vice president
of the Croatian Parliament, Jadranka Kosor, said Tuesday, marking
the beginning of the radio's broadcasting from its seat after six
years of exile.
The first half hour of today's programme was broadcast by 90 local
stations in Croatia.
Speaking to Croatian Radio Vukovar editor Vlado Benic, Kosor said
she was satisfied with the station's return to its home in Vukovar.
This fact confirms that the peaceful reintegration of eastern
Croatia has succeeded, Kosor said.
She was sure the station would work to the benefit of the town's
residents and in line with the basic constitutional provision on
equality of all Croatian citizens, and would assist in the return of
Croatian displaced persons.
"Croatian Radio Vukovar has returned to Vukovar, and now we are
waiting for our displaced persons", said the station's editor
Benic.
Present at today's event were, among others, the vice president of
the National Committee for the restoration of trust, Ivica Vrkic,
Croatian Deputy Interior Minister and commander of the
Transitional Police Force in eastern Croatia, Josko Moric, Vukovar
Mayor Vladimir Stengl, Vukovar-Srijem County Deputy Prefect
Andrija Matic, representatives of the UNTAES and the association of
local media.
