PULA, Nov 24 (Hina) - The Pula Municipal Court on Monday handed down
an 18-month suspended sentence to a Croatian Army officer who
earlier this year physically attacked the president of the Croatian
Social Liberal Party during his presidential election campaign.
Tomislav Brzovic, 25, from Suica in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on 5 June
this year attacked presidential candidate Vlado Gotovac during an
election rally in Pula. Brzovic jumped on the speaker stand and hit
Gotovac on the head with a belt.
The court cited as extenuating circumstances the fact that Brzovic
was drunk at the time of the attack, had not been sentenced before
and had participated in the defence of Croatia during the Homeland
War.
