SARAJEVO, Nov 20 (Hina) - NATO Secretary-General Javier Solana on
Thursday called on voters to participate in the upcoming elections
in Republika Srpska, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
SFOR would not tolerate any violence and would enable all voters to
cast their votes undisturbed and in peace, he added at a news
conference in Sarajevo.
Solana and main commander of NATO forces in Europe, Wesley Clark,
arrived in Sarajevo to inspect preparations for the elections and,
as he put it, to once again warn Bosnia-Herzegovina officials about
the necessity to completely implement the Dayton Agreement.
During his talks with the chairman and member of the Presidency of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegovic and Momcilo Krajisnik, as
well as Martin Ragus, who stood in for Croat member Kresimir Zubak,
Solana relayed a clear message that the implementation of the
Dayton accord had to be quick.
Solana reiterated on Thursday that the international community had
long-term obligations towards Bosnia-Herzegovina, but refused to
comment on what could be expected to happen after June 1998 when
NATO-led SFOR's mandate expires.
