SARAJEVO, 25 Oct (Hina) - Several hundred pensioners on Saturday
blocked traffic in central Sarajevo, protesting against low and
irregular pension allowances.
After a protest meeting, which was held near the hotel 'Holiday
Inn', a group of protesters went to the Parliament building where
they continued their protest. Similar gatherings were held
throughout the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
According the Federation Statistics Institute, the average pension
allowance in the Federation amounts to 98 German marks,
and the guaranteed pension allowance to DM 70. This has been going
on for 18 months, since the pensions were frozen because the Pension
Insurance Fund did not have money for regular payments.
