TRIESTE, 25 Oct (Hina) - The first conference of parliament
presidents of the Central European Initiative (CEI) member-
countries, which started in Trieste Saturday, included discussions
on national parliaments, fight against organised crime, and
sovereignty of national parliaments between international and
local institutions.
Croatia's delegation at the conference is led by Parliament
President Vlatko Pavletic, including also the House of Counties'
President Katica Ivanisevic and the head of the Croatian delegation
in the CEI, Zdravka Busic.
Pavletic met with the President of the Italian Parliament House of
Representatives, Luciano Violante. They discussed international
bilateral questions, the Council of Europe, and Croatia's wish for
Italy to support its efforts to join Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Violante invited Pavletic to pay an official visit to the Italian
parliament in spring 1998.
The Croatian Parliament President also met with his Czech
counterpart Milos Zeman. 'We have agreed that a meeting should be
organised as soon as possible, either in Zagreb or in Prague',
Pavletic said.
Pavletic also met with the Polish Parliament President Maciej
Plazynski, who is soon to pay a return visit to Croatia, and with
Slovenia's Parliament President Janez Podobnik. Pavletic is to pay
a return visit to Slovenia next year.
Pavletic visited the Croatian consulate general in Trieste,
accompanied by the Croatian Ambassador Davorin Rudolf.
The President of the House of Counties, Katica Ivanisevic, visited
the Croatian Cultural Society in Trieste.
