OSIJEK, Oct 7 (Hina) - The Osijek County Office for Refugees and
Displaced Persons said on Tuesday it had registered 543 returnees
to the UN-administered part of the county, adding that that much
more people had returned spontaneously.
The head of the office, Nada Arbanas, told a press
conference in Osijek that 1,059 displaced persons had returned to
other areas of Croatia in organised convoys from the UN-
administered Danube river region.
Arbanas said that the Ministry of Reconstruction and
Development had launched a programme aimed at furnishing the
houses of returnees.
Representatives of the regional office would meet officials
of the UNHCR and the Red Cross and the heads of municipalities in
the region to discuss ways of delivering aid to returnees.
