MEMORIAL PEACE LIBRARY OPENED AT U.S. EMBASSY IN ZAGREB

ZAGREB, Sept 11 (Hina) - The Memorial Peace Library was opened at the United States Embassy in Zagreb on Thursday by Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic and US Ambassador Peter Galbraith. The library, whose renovation lasted 14 months, is dedicated to the memory of three US diplomats, led by Robert Frasure, who died in a traffic accident on Mount Igman during a peace mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina in August 1995, and 33 Americans, including Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown, and two Croats who were killed in a plane crash near Dubrovnik in April 1996. Continuing their efforts, implementing the peace agreements from Dayton and Eastern Slavonia, and offering prospects for a better future to people who have lost so much in the last five years, we can all pay tribute by remembering those brave people who gave their lives so that all people in this region could enjoy the benefits of peace, Galbraith said at the opening ceremony. Granic said he believed that the American-Croatian relations would be further promoted through the work of the library. Getting acquainted with our cultures through literature and art really promotes the relations between Croatia and the United States and is directly beneficial to the people of the two countries. The memory of people who gave their lives on a peace mission imposes on us an additional duty and obligation to strengthen the partnership between Croatia and the US, Granic said.
