WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Hina) - U.S. President's candidate for the
commander of the U.S. armed forces, General Henry Shelton has said he
supports the withdrawal of American troops from Bosnia-Herzegovina next
June, but he has admitted that he is not quite sure what pull-out strategy his
country has.
At his testimony to the Senate committee for armed forces, Gen.
Shelton said on Tuesday that he did not know exactly what would be the
U.S. withdrawal strategy.
According to him, the U.S. administration has about ten months for
planning the pull-out.
During his testimony, U.S. senators expressed strong opposition to a
possibility of prolonging the deployment of U.S. forces in Bosnia.
Shelton said that the NATO should consider a possibility of retaining
forces after the withdrawal of the current NATO-led Stabilisation Force
(SFOR).
He added that he would consider the deployment of specially trained
policemen or crack commandos for the arrest of war criminals in Bosnia.
