OPATIJA, Sept 7 (Hina) - The Alpe Adria working collective's fourth
international congress on heart surgery opened under the patronage
of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman in the northern Adriatic port
of Opatija on Sunday. The central topic is heart surgery on the
elderly, with special focus on cardio-surgery on little children.
More than 200 scientists and experts will take part in the
congress, including the founder of World Association of Cardio-
Pulmonary Surgeons, Juro Wada from Japan, the secretary general of
the European Association for Cardio-Pulmonary Surgery, Torvel Aberg
from Sweden, and cardio-surgeon Renat S. Akchurin from Moscow.
The congress closes on 10 September.
