173 DISLOCATED PEOPLE LEAVE CROATIAN DANUBE RIVER AREA

OSIJEK, Sept 3 (Hina) - The 15th convoy of dislocated Serbs left the Croatian Danube river area for other Croatian parts on Wednesday. The convoy consisting of six busses with 173 people started the trip at the Osijek-Klisa road for Sisak, Okucani, Karlovac, Donji Lapac, Korenica, Sibenik, Knin, Zadar and Gospic. The UN Transitional Administrator of the Croatian Danube river area, William Walker, who saw off the busses, said that the departure of Serb dislocated people from the Danube area created a possibility for the return of Croatian displaced people to the area. Walker expressed hope that the two-way return would work out and added that the Croatian Government had assumed an obligation to take necessary measures aimed at ensuring maximum security of returnees. He also said that he was encouraged by the fact that there were security conditions, what he could see during his recent visit to Knin. The head of the Osijek-based regional office for the displaced and refugees, Nada Arbanas, said that the organising of the return of dislocated people was proceeding with no incident and with good cooperation with the UN Transitional Administration for the Danube area (UNTAES) and UNHCR.
