INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS IN MOSTAR CONDEMN TRAVNIK KILLINGS

MOSTAR, Sept 2 (Hina) - International organisations in the Mostar area of southern Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday strongly condemned Saturday's killing of two Croats in Travnik, drawing attention to the first undesirable consequences of that event. Speaking at a news conference, OSCE Mostar office director Edward Joseph emphasised the fact that both Croats and Moslems were involved in the investigation. He warned of possible effects the Travnik incident could have on forthcoming local elections. UNHCR spokesman Jack Franckan said that on Tuesday morning a group of teenagers had stoned a bus carrying workers to Stolac, southeast of Mostar, to rebuild houses as part of a pilot project for the return of Moslem refugees to that town. Two passengers suffered minor injuries. On Monday, a group of about 20 to 30 women and children held up a bus on an approach road to Stolac. The bus, carrying a team for the assessment of damage to the houses planned for reconstruction, was turned back, Franckan said. Franckan said he believed that the pilot project aimed at returning 100 Moslem families to Stolac would be completed by the end of this month.
