JAJCE, Aug 30 (Hina) - UN special rapporteur for human rights
Elisabeth Rehn on Saturday visited the central Bosnian town of Jajce
where she held talks with representatives of municipal authorities
and the police focusing on the return of 450 Bosniak (Muslim)
families to villages in the Jajce municipality.
Rehn told reporters she requested of Jajce municipal
authorities and police to start an investigation into incidents
which took place a few weeks ago when Muslims returned to villages
in the municipality.
Rehn stressed it was necessary to aid returnees before winter
by ensuring potable water, electricity, and other human rights
necessary for normal existence.
According to the president of the Jajce municipal council,
Jozo Lucic, the UN special rapporteur did not show interest for the
threatened basic human rights of about 400 Croat returnee-families,
who have spent the last two years living in poor conditions, without
water or electricity.
Hard living conditions existed for all returnees to Jajce -
Croats, Muslims and Serbs - regardless of their nationality, Lucic
pointed out, adding this was due to lack of understanding on the
part of the international community which did not ensure money and
construction material for the reconstruction of housing and economy
buildings demolished in the war.
