EXHIBITION ON CRO DANUBE REGION TO BE SET AT UNESCO PALACE IN PARIS

PARIS $ ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - "From the Dove to Peace - Four Jewels of Eastern Croatia - Osijek, Vinkovci, Ilok, Vukovar" is the title of an exhibition on the cultural heritage of the four towns in the Croatian Danube region which is to open in the UNESCO palace in Paris on 3 September. The exhibition consists of 58 big posters and 16 copies of big monuments of exceptional value, to give a summary of the four towns' history. Speaking about the importance of the exhibition, Croatian Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic told reporters in Zagreb on Friday it would provide a dignified presentation of this temporarily occupied and heavily devastated part of Croatia. The exhibition covers the Vukovar-Srijem and the Osijek- Baranja counties and through valuable museum exhibits and documents shows the French and world public the cultural heritage of eastern Croatia, said Biskupic, adding the event would be accompanied by the presentation of a programme on the reconstruction of the war-damaged cultural heritage and towns of Vukovar, Ilok, Osijek and Vinkovci. "The aim of the exhibition is to bring UNESCO closer to our past, present and future, to remind of the perishing of monuments in the Homeland War, and to warn about stolen movable monuments, and to request of world organizations caring for monuments and museums, to provide us with assistance and support for the retrieval of the stolen treasure", Minister Biskupic said.
