ZAGREB, Aug 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Wednesday received the newly-appointed head of the UN
Transitional Administration (UNTAES) of the Croatian Danube
region, the President's Office said in a statement.
Wishing Walker successful performance of new duties, in
which he would have full support of Croatian authorities, the
President said that satisfactory results had so far been achieved
in the completion of the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian
Danube region.
Now that its mission is at an end, UNTAES should help
elected local authorities take over and operate in line with the
Croatian constitutional and legal system, as well as to ensure
normalisation of life and return of displaced persons, Tudjman
said.
Walker expressed firm confidence that the UNTAES mission
would be completed successfully and that all agreed measures
would be successfully implemented on the local level.
Also attending were Presidential Chief of Staff Hrvoje
Sarinic, Reconstruction and Development Minister Jure Radic,
Presidential Foreign Policy Adviser Neven Madey and Deputy Chief
of Staff Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, the statement concluded.
