VUKOVAR Aug 26 (Hina) - A man died after having stepped on a mine in
the Osijek-Baranja County under the UN Transitional Administration on
August 22, the UNTAES Transitional Police Force in Vukovar said Tuesday.
Mitar Milinkovic (49) went fishing with friends on the river Vuka near
Petrova Slatina, south of Ernestinovo in the Croatian Danubian area when
he stepped on an anti-personnel mine on the river bank. He was killed
immediately. No one else was injured.
Aide to the Transitional Police Force Sector South commander,
Miodrag Maticic, said the police force and the Vukovar municipal court
investigative judge had inspected the scene.
TPF and UNTAES officials reiterated a warning to the Croatian
Danubian area residents and other persons in the area to be cautious and
not to stray off of the main paths.
