ZAGREB, Aug 21 (Hina) - Croatian Minister of Education and Sport
Ljilja Vokic on Thursday appointed headmasters of primary and
secondary schools in Osijek County.
In the eastern part of the county which is under UN
transitional administration, the minister appointed headmaster of
a secondary school in Beli Manastir as well as heads of
departments of that school and of two area schools in Darda and
Dalj.
Headmasters of schools in Vukovar County will be named in
the coming days.
By Thursday, 2,924 primary school pupils and 807 secondary
school students in the UN-controlled part of Osijek County have
exchanged certificates issued by illegal Serb authorities.
In the UN-administered part of Vukovar County, 4,377
primary school pupils and 2,227 secondary school students have
exchanged such certificates.
School children in the region will not be able to enrol in
the next school year without a certificate issued by Croatian
authorities.
Enrolment in secondary schools in the region will take
place in the last week of this month and classes will begin on
September 8.
There are about 12,000 primary school pupils and about
3,000 secondary school students in the region.
The Ministry is rebuilding and equipping schools in the
region, which were damaged in the war or which are in a poor
state of repair, without basic teaching aids, telephones, faxes
and other equipment.
