PLITVICE LAKES/KNIN, Aug 12 (Hina) - A Croatian Parliament member
and the Serb people's council president, Milorad Pupovac, the
Serb democratic forum president, Veljko Dzakula and a Serb
people's council member, Marko Popovic, on Tuesday toured the
municipality of Plitvice Lakes and talked with the mayor, Mile
Cancar, and the Croatian government's refugee office's head in
the town of Korenica, Ana Cicak.
Pupovac and the delegation were informed of difficulties
that occurred in reconstruction, infrastructure construction and
of unemployment problems.
At the talks it was said that "there are no problems in the
return of Serbs who have government documents for the plan for
(their) return."
Pupovac voiced satisfaction with the care for the Serb
community in this area in central Croatia.
After that, Pupovac visited Knin and met its mayor Milivoj
Tomas. Pupovac told him that Serb residents of the area would
like that their community be organised so that town authorities
could have a partner in efforts to eliminate joint problems.
We see that there is readiness to improve the state of
affairs in Knin and to create a more tolerable and promising
situation for all people who live here, including members of the
Serb community, Pupovac said.
Tomas said that in the past three months about 850 Serbs
had come back to the Knin area, and only about 60 of them
returned in an organised manner, in line with documents of the
Croatian Government.
