OSIJEK, 23 June (Hina) - Out of 621 work contracts which were offered to teachers from the U.N.-administered part of Osijek County, 568 contracts have been signed, the head of the County Office for Education and Culture Ksenija Zbozil stated on Monday. #L# She added that primary school teachers signed 395 work contracts, while secondary school teachers signed 173 contracts. There were some objections on the Serb part, since they demanded that those who started working after 30 September, 1996, be granted employment as well, which opposes the commitments the Croatian Government had taken over, Zbozil said, adding that the Serb request had to be rejected. The employees who will not be granted employment are those whose work contracts expire on 31 August this year, those who do not have the required qualifications or validated diplomas if they graduated from faculties outside of Croatia and those who are foreign citizens and do not have Croatian citizenship certificates, Zbozil said. Speaking about the replacement of school certificates in the UNTAES area with the ones issued by Croatian authorities, Zbozil said that the procedure would be performed by the County Office for Education and Culture until conditions for the replacement of school certificates are met by the schools which issued those certificates. Despite the fact that the joint committee for education agreed at its last meeting that Croatian education authorities would participate in all preparations for the new school year in the Croatian Danube river region, the Serb side has started preparations for enrolments, Zbozil said. The UNTAES has re-affirmed that preparations for the new school year will have to be carried out together, Zbozil said, adding she believed that this question would be put into Croatian legislation framework as well.
