on Wednesday found Milos Horvat guilty of crimes against humanity,
committed in Branjina, the area of Baranja. Horvat was sentenced to five
years in prison. #L#
Explaining the verdict, the panel of judges said that after the
occupation of Baranja, Horvat was one of the founders and members of
the so-called 'territorial defence' and participated in decision-making
on the basis of which the Croat residents of Branjina were maltreated.
Witnesses confirmed that Horvat had participated in the harassment of
Croat residents of Branjina.
The president of the panel, Judge Ruzica Samota, said that the
panel had taken into account the fact that Horvat did not have a
previous criminal record and that 'his behaviour was not that of a
notorious criminal and he was not an extremist'. Therefore, the Court
decided on the minimal sentence for the criminal act of crime against
humanity.
