SARJEVO, June 3 (Hina) - A two-day symposium on the place and roles of
Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in European transport and communications
corridors has begun in Sarajevo on Tuesday.
The meeting, held under the sponsorship of the Croatian and Bosnian
Academies of Arts and Sciences, or HAZU and ANUBIH respectively, has
attracted senior officials of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
The HAZU President Ivan Supek greeted participants of the symposium
where 14 studies on transport and communications needs of the two
countries would be presented.
Croatian Transport Minister Zeljko Luzavec said at the event that
talks on the place of Croatia and Bosnia in European transport, which
had started a year before in Zagreb, had already yielded results in
discussions with other European countries on transport corridors.
European countries have taken in consideration requests by Croatia and
Bosnia to be included in a net of European road and communications
corridors that should link the Baltic and the Adriatic Sea as well as
eastern and western Europe. A Helsinki meeting of European transport
organisations, due to be on June 22, should decide on this issue.
"Bosnia and Croatia now need a new joint transport strategy,"
Luzavec told the Sarajevo gathering. He added that a corridor from the
Croatian seaport of Ploce via Mostar and Sarajevo to Budapest interested
Croatia in particular.
