SPLIT, June 2 (Hina) - The mayor of the southern Croatian port city of
Split, Ivan Skaric, on Monday received the European Union special envoy
to Croatia, Ambassador Per Vinther.
The talks focused on problems caused by the war and the transition
to a market economy.
Skaric said that Split's economy, particularly its shipbuilding and
tourist industries, had good prospects, emphasising that the city
expected financial support from the world to overcome the present
crisis.
Vinther said that the realisation of the PHARE programme depended
on talks between Croatia and EU representatives, adding that there were
also other programmes that could be realised between Croatian and EU
companies.
