ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - A two-day international seminar on nuclear safety,
organized by the Croatian Ministry of the Economy in cooperation with the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), began in Zagreb on Tuesday.
Participants from Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech
Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Slovakia and Slovenia will discuss forms of
the use of nuclear energy for peacetime purposes, the safety of nuclear
power stations, radioactive waste management and experiences in the
application of nuclear energy.
The gathering was addressed by Croatian Economy Minister Davor Stern,
who said that the Croatian government supported the use of nuclear energy
for peacetime purposes. "This seminar will contribute to the more realistic
understanding of the problem of nuclear energy.," he said.
IAEA deputy director Zygmund Domaratzky said that one of the aims of
the seminar was to discuss understanding and a lack of understanding
surrounding nuclear energy.
